Human skull found near Mall of Georgia

BUFORD - A person walking in a wooded area near the Mall of Georgia found a human skull late Thursday afternoon.

Gwinnett Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said officers responded to the scene off Brown Road between Sunny Hill Road and Morgan Road in Buford.

"Our officers went out there and conducted a search and found some partial remains, as well, that we believe belong to this skull," said Ritter.

Ritter said the county medical examiner told him it appears that the bones had been in the area for quite some time. Authorities said they believe the remains are those of a black or Hispanic male. A cause of death has not been determined at this time.
