Gomez named IL Player of Week to close season

The International League announced Wednesday that Gwinnett first baseman Mauro Gomez has been named the League's final IL Player of the Week (batter of the week) for 2011, representing the period from Aug. 29 through Sept. 5.

Gomez is the first player to win consecutive IL Batter of the Week awards since Andy Marte of Columbus in July of 2009. It marks the eighth weekly award this season for Gwinnett, tied with Columbus for the League-high.
