LAWRENCEVILLE -- Yohan Flande yielded just one hit and one run in six innings to lead the Gwinnett Braves to a 4-1 win over the Norfolk Tides Thursday night at Coolray Field.
Atlanta's Peter Moylan also had his second scoreless outing on his rehab with Gwinnett pitching one inning with one walk and one strikeout.
The win kept the Braves (72-60) in second place in the International League South standing three games behind Durham. Gwinnett also remained just two games back in the Wild Card race of both Pawtucket and Lehigh Valley.
Newest Braves signing Wes Helms, who was originally drafted by Atlanta 12 seasons ago, continued his Braves resurgence playing third base going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ruben Gotay (1-for-3) and Brandon Hicks (1-for-4) each notched an RBI for Gwinnett.
The two teams' will resume the four-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. Gwinnett will send out RHP Randall Delgado (2-1, 4.32) against the Tides' RHP Rick VandenHurk (8-13, 4.58). The game can be heard on the voice of the Gwinnett Braves, WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM.
NOTES: It's a big night Friday for the final Friday game of the 2011 season at Coolray Field. Of course, it's Friday Night Fireworks sponsored by Fox 5 as TV personalities from the local station will be out in force to help the G-Braves light up the night sky after the game.
