Georgia's jobless rate is up again for July

ATLANTA - Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 10.1 percent in July, but pockets of the state saw jobless numbers decline.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says metro Atlanta's preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate decreased to 10.4 percent in July, down from 10.5 percent in June and the same as a year earlier.

Butler says 14,000 more area residents were employed in July than in June.

Elsewhere in Georgia, metro Gainesville's unemployment rate fell from 8.9 to 8.7 percent, metro Savannah's rate declined from 9.5 to 9.4 percent, metro Rome's rate rose from 10.8 to 11 percent, metro Albany was unchanged at 10.7 percent, metro Columbus fell from 10.1 to 9.6 percent, metro Macon was unchanged at 10.5 percent and metro Augusta's rate rose from 9.8 to 9.9 percent.

The lowest rates, at 7.9 percent, were in Athens and Warner Robins.
