BUFORD - A Buford man was critically injured Sunday night when he became trapped in his burning home.
Gwinnett Fire Department crews were initially pushed back by heavy smoke and flames when they got to the scene on Sycamore Road just after 7:30 p.m.
"Our crews went in and they heard somebody hollering for help," said Gwinnett Fire Lt. Eric Eberly. "They went to the kitchen area where they found a male that appeared to be in his 40s on the ground."
Eberly said the victim was suffering from smoke inhalation and burns. He was listed in critical condition at last report.
The fired is believed to have been sparked by food left unattended on a stove.
