By staff reports
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- J.J. Hoover earned his first Triple-A win leading the Gwinnett Braves to a 1-0 win over the Syracuse Chiefs Thursday.

Hoover struck out five of the six batters he faced in two innings of relief for Todd Redmond, who pitched scoreless innings.

The Braves (69-57) remained four games behind the Durham Bulls (72-52) in the IL South standings and 2.5 games behind the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (72-55) in the Wild Card standings with the win.

Wilkin Castillo drove in the winning run in the eighth with a single to right field scoring Stefan Gartrell.

The Braves managed to get the win despite just two hits against Chiefs' starter Brad Peacock and reliever Atahualpa Severino, who took the loss.

Brandon Hicks had the other hit for Gwinnett.

Gwinnett will wrap up its four-game series with the Chiefs on Friday night. Southpaw Yohan Flande (7-7, 3.99) will take the mound for the G-Braves against fellow left-hander Tommy Milone (9-6, 3.47) for Syracuse.

The game can be heard on the home of the G-Braves, WDUN 550 AM/102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play by play.
