GAINESVILLE - Though he made no promises, House Speaker David Ralston said Wednesday he feels sure the concerns about adding new House districts to Hall County will be addressed during the current legislative session.
But, Ralston told WDUN'S Al Gainey & Company Hall County has added a lot of people in the past ten years and that usually means changes in a county's state legislive make-up.
"I mean that's the law and that's the way the math works out."
Ralston added when you have the kind of growth Hall County has had "the probability of being divided into a greater number of districts increases. We've tried to avoid unnecessarily dividing counties up."
The Hall County legislative delegation, Republican Party and Gainesville City Council are among groups that have asked the legislature to revisit the plans for the county. (See earlier stories.)
Reapportionment maps released by the legislature last Friday show three state House districts becoming a part of Hall County which would increase the number to seven.
