Weekend fire ruled arson

By Dean Dyer/WRWH
CLEVELAND - White County fire officials say a fire Saturday night at #7 Hard Rock Road was intentionally set. Firefighters were dispatched about 9:30, according to fire department spokeswoman Ana Newberry.

"No one was in the double wide mobile home at the time of the fire," Newberry said, adding "there was moderate damage to the exterior porch area."

Newberry said there was no electric service connected to the mobiel home and that, coupled with the fact that it was vacant, immediately led investigators to consider the fire "suspicious."

Arson Investigator Robi Wilkins said Monday the fire is being handled as an arson case. "I do have a person of interest at this time that I am following up with," he said.

There were no injuries and firefighters were on scene for about two hours. Units from the Cleveland Fire Department and the fire department at Lee Arrendale State Prison assisted county firefighters.
