COMMERCE -- The East Hall Lady Vikings volleyball team started off the 2011 season at the East Jackson Playdate on Saturday, going 3-1 for the best start in school history.
The Lady Vikings had wins over Cedar Shoals 25-18, 25-18, Madison County 25-17, 25-7 and Lumpkin County 25-10, 25-17. Their only loss of the day came to Jackson County in a three-set match 17-25, 25-18, 18-25.
Brittney Cambell helped lead the way for East Hall with 19 points scored on serve, 8 aces, 15 kills, 30 assists and 13 digs. Kara Hix also had 29 points scored on serve, 9 aces, 17 kills and 28 digs and 5 assists, while Emily Hoggard managed 19 points scored on serve, 11 aces, 10 kills, 2 assists and 14 digs. Tarryn Long chipped in with 19 points scored on serve, 10 aces, 29 kills, 17 digs and 1 block, and Tatiana Castillo added 16 points scored on serve, 5 aces, 2 kills, 3 assists and 47 digs. Latisha Shelton also had 2 points scored on serve, 4 kills, 5 assists and 7 digs, while Sydney Farley added 8 points on serve, 22 assists and 15 digs.
