LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Braves were boosted again by a rehabbing Brian McCann, as his homer helped the squad rise past the Red Sox 4-2 on Saturday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.
McCann, on a Major League rehab stint for Atlanta for the second straight game, played catcher and showed off his power in the win. The G-Braves (67-54) remained in second place in the International League South at two games behind Durham. Gwinnett is also second in the Wild Card race by a one game margin behind Lehigh Valley. The Red Sox (68-52) remain in first place in the IL North (all figures at press time).
McCann powered a 2-1 pitch in the fourth inning into the arms of the happy fans sitting over the wall in the right field lawn area for a 2-1 lead. The G-Braves would increase the margin from there and seal the victory.
Gwinnett starting pitcher Todd Redmond (9-8) may not have been the biggest name on the Gwinnett roster tonight, but he certainly pitched like the star he's been this season. Redmond went 7 innings for his third straight start, and allowed just 1 run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The longest tenured G-Brave has now yielded 2 runs or less in every start since July 17. His ninth win on the season ties his best season total with Gwinnett
