GAINESVILLE - The 19th edition of "Smoke on the Mountain," performed by the Georgia Mountain Players, opened at the Georgia Mountains Center in Gainesville Thursday night.

The wildly popular comedy is set in North Carolina in 1938 and revolves around a rural church and the changes that come to it with a new pastor and his family... changes fiercely opposed by some in the congregation.

There is plenty of traditional Southern gospel music, which plays a central role in the story.
