Back to school picks up steam this week

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
UNDATED - The number of school systems opening for the new year this week in the immediate Gainesville area is about twice the number that opened last week... and includes some of the larger systems.

Six systems open their doors Monday: Barrow, Hall, Clarke and Gwinnett counties as well as the Commerce and Gainesville city systems.

Gainesville Superintendent Merrianne Dyer says please don't forget those "staggered" arrival times which are new this year at Enota and Centennial elementary schools. Details can be found by clicking on the link below.

Gainesville has also had to do some juggling over the summer to make room at Wood's Mill for Fair Street students as plans are made to demolish the Fair Street facilities to make room for a new Fair Street complex.

Later in the week, classes resume in Lumpkin County on Tuesday; White County on Wednesday; Buford and Banks and Jackson counties Thursday; and, Dawson County on Friday.
