The heat is still on

UNDATED - Parts of Georgia, for a second straight day, are under a heat advisory today, and this time some north Georgia counties are included.

In the immediate Gainesville area, Barrow, Clarke and Gwinnett are included. Also on the list: most of metro Atlanta, and parts of northwest Georgia.

Places under the gun yesterday, such as LaGrange, Macon and Columbus and surrounding areas, are included again today.

High temperatures around the state are forecast to range from 96 to 103 on today, and 94 to 103 tomorrow. Little cooling is expected through the weekend, with heat indexes again in the triple-digits in many places.

Many places yesterday recorded highs that were as much as 10 degrees above normal for the date, including Gainesville, where the high at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport was 93. Normal for the date is 84. But the 93 was still five degrees shy of the record for the date, 98 which was set in 1951.

The record for the date in Athens was broken when the temperature reached 100 at 3:00 yesterday afternoon. The old record was 99 which had stood since 1931.
