DURHAM, N.C. -- The Gwinnett Braves suffered a 4-0 shut out at the hands of the Durham Bulls on Wednesday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
Starter Matt Moore was brilliant for the Bulls on the night, striking out 13 and improving to 1-0 on the year. With the Gwinnett (57-47) loss, the G-Braves remained in second place in the International League South division standings but are now 2 games behind the Durham Bulls (59-45) for the lead.
Durham took control in the bottom of the third, when John Matulia hit his fourth home run of the year off of Gwinnett's Mike Minor.
Minor had a solid performance but was outdueled by Moore. Minor threw 7 innings, allowing 4 runs, 2 earned on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts. He also allowed two home runs on his way to his fifth loss of the year. Reliever Jairo Asencio finished the game for the Braves, tossing an inning and allowing two hits.
The G-Braves were limited to only four hits on the night, with only one player -- Tyler Pastornicky, having a multi-hit game. Pastornicky finished up the game going 2-for-3 with a walk and raised his average to .441. Diory Hernandez and Wilkin Castillo had the only other hits for the G-Braves, both going 1-for-3.
The G-Braves continue their four game series against the Durham Bulls with game three on Thursday night in Durham, N.C. The G-Braves will send out RHP Todd Redmond (7-8, 3.18) vs. LHP Alex Torres (7-6, 3.21) for the Bulls.
