ATLANTA - Initial unemployment insurance claims in Georgia were down over the past twelve months by 9 percent, but in Gainesville they were up by the largest percentage of any metro area in the state.
Statewide, claims were down 5,813, or 9 percent.
In Gainesville, they were up 28 percent, or by 247. Only two other metropolitan areas showed increases in filings: Savannah (4 percent or 85) and Rome (1.6 percent or 12).
Valdosta had the best showing... a 29 percent (305 net change) decrease in claims, followed by Dalton (21.2 percent, 473) and Macon (17.6 percent, 275) to round out the top three.
