Gainesville Little Leaguers fall short

TOCCOA - A group of 9- and 10-year-old Little Leaguers from Gainesville fell short Friday night in their quest for a state championship.

They lost to Columbus 6-4 in the championship game in Toccoa.

The team won the district tournament last month in Monroe, going undefeated in that competition and beating Athens in the finals.

In this week's tournament, they beat Martinez-Evans, Murphey-Candler, Franklin County, and Dudley in pool play, and then beat Cartersville in the semi-finals Thursday night, sending them into Friday night's final.
