ARCAD - Residents of the Atlanta Union Mission's Potter's House shelter in Arcade have attempted a large-scale gardening project that's turned out to be a big success.
The residents expanded their kitchen garden this year as a way to reach out to the community.
The garden has produced so many fresh vegetables that the Potter's House is not only supplying its own kitchen but the kitchens of Atlanta Union Mission's other shelters. Whatever is left over is sold fresh to the public.
Farm supervisor Steve Lamphear says the farm has produced about 3,000 squash, 2,000 cucumbers, 1,000 tomatoes, 500 radishes and 200 green peppers.
The mission founded the Potter's House in 1967 to help men who were facing homelessness because of addiction.
