Convicted Braselton murderer retains life sentence

By B.J. Williams
GWINNETT COUNTY - A Braselton man serving a life sentence for the Valentine's Day murder of his wife in 2010 will remain in jail for life, even though he was already serving a 20-year-sentence for an earlier attack on his wife.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Warren Davis did not realize that Philip Chad Dunn, 29, had already been given a 20-year prison sentence for a separate attack on his wife in Barrow County.

Despite the oversight, attorneys for both sides conferred with Davis and the judge kept the life sentence in place. Dunn was convicted in mid-June in the stabbing death of Shelley Dunn at a Walmart parking lot in Suwanee. He committed the crime in front of the couple's two children.
