Alabama RB Hart undergoes knee surgery

By The Associated Press
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama running back Dee Hart has undergone surgery to repair a torn knee ligament.

Coach Nick Saban says Dr. Lyle Cain performed the surgery Thursday and that Hart's status for the season is unknown. The highly touted freshman, who enrolled in January, was hurt during summer conditioning.

Rivals.com rated him a five-star prospect and the nation's top all-purpose back. He was the U.S. Army national player of the year and a teammate of fellow Crimson Tide freshman Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fla.

Alabama had already lost two members of a once-crowded backfield led by Trent Richardson. Corey Grant is planning to transfer and Demetrius Goode has left for Division II North Alabama.

The Tide also signed running back/linebacker Brent Calloway.
