Forsyth Co. opens new fire station

By Staff
CUMMING - Forsyth County Fire Department personnel began responding out of their newest facility Monday in the Silver City community.

The new Fire Station 7 is just under a mile north of the former Station 7, which was constructed by volunteers on leased land in 1974 and had far exceeded its life expectancy, according to Forsyth County officials.

Officials, citizens, staff and guests gathered for the hose uncoupling ceremony Friday that officially marked the grand opening of the new station.

"On behalf of the entire Forsyth County Fire Department and most especially those working out of Fire Station 7, I express our gratitude to this community, to our Board of Commissioners, to our county administration and to all those who support the department and who worked to make this new fire station possible," Fire Chief Danny Bowman said. "We also extend our thanks to the Mills family for allowing the county, for years, to use the land on which the former Fire Station 7 is located."

New Fire Station 7 is located at 6320 Dahlonega Highway in the Silver City community.

It is a two-bay, 7,333 square foot facility. Ground was broken for the new station on August 12, 2010. The project was funded by SPLOST and Impact Fees.

County Commission Chairman Brian R. Tam thanked those who made the funding of the new station a reality.

"Today, we say thank you to the citizens of Forsyth County for the SPLOST funding that helped make this new fire station possible," said Tam. "And we say thank you to the development community of Forsyth County for the Impact Fee funding that helped fund construction of this great new fire station."
