Corps issues warning about dam releases

By The Associated Press
BUFORD - Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are issuing warnings about water releases on the Chattahoochee River in the wake of several rescues in recent days.

The Corps is working with the National Park Service, city and county governments, marinas and schools to help warn people about the dangers.

Corps spokeswoman Lisa Coghlan said emergency crews are making more rescues on the Chattahoochee when water is released from Buford Dam.

Federal authorities have also said they plan to look into rules covering how outfitters do business along the Chattahoochee after a young girl's drowning.

Authorities said it appeared that 9-year-old Anna Vanhorn of Peachtree City got caught up in a release of water from Buford Dam while tubing on June 3.
