CORNELIA - With the opening of the new Super Walmart in Cornelia just days away, the Georgia Department of Transportation will begin making some traffic control changes outside the new store this week.
A new traffic signal at State Route 105 and VFW Road and the new Walmart will go info flash mode Tuesday morning. Then, if testing goes well and weather permits, the signal will be fully operational a week later, on Tuesday, June 21. The store opens June 29.
Each intersection is reviewed to determine if the intersection meets the Federal guidelines for the installation of a traffic signal. The intersection of State Route 105 and VFW Road met those requirements based on the opening of the new Walmart.
"Please slow down through the area while crews work and finish testing the signal. Once the signal is operational, please use extra caution until you get familiar with the new signal location. Remember to watch out for other drivers until they get used to the new signal too," said Georgia DOT District Engineer Todd McDuffie.
