I never get to this point in writing a book without thinking about one of my heroes, Sir Winston Churchill. Which means my newest book will be available locally in a few days, and well before Father's Day. The title of the book is CHARACTERS, CRAZIES and the CULTURE of Northeast Georgia.

Now, back to why I remember Sir Winston at a time like this. Let me quote him: "Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress; then it becomes a master; then it becomes a tyrant. The last phrase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him about to the public." As I mentioned, the monster I am flinging about to the public is entitled CHARACTERS, CRAZIES and the CULTURE of Northeast Georgia. It contains 16 chapters on 375 pages. There are more than 200"little stories", snapshots of characters, crazies and a few normal folks who have made Georgia's mountain area what it is.

And yes, it names names. Some named you may not recognize, for this history starts in the 1700's and cuts off in the 1960's. Some people you absolutely will have heard of, and some you will likely know personally. I have done a BULLI course and several talks using material from this book as I was researching and writing it, and if these are an indication, I think you will agree that history does not have to be dull. That is CHARACTERS, CRAZIES and the CULTURE of Northeast Georgia...and this is Gordon Sawyer from a window on historic Green Street.
