CORNELIA - In just over three weeks, Cornelia becomes home to a new Super Wal-Mart. That's good news for shoppers, but better news for the job market in Habersham County.
"Wal-Mart will be adding 30 new full-time positions," said Judy Taylor with the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, Taylor said the new store will also employ another 110 part-time employees, bringing the total number of Wal-Mart jobs in the county to around 300.
And, Taylor said the new facility will restore tax dollars that have been diverted to surrounding counties.
"For years now, Habersham County has been losing tax revenue to these surrounding counties that have Super Wal-Marts," said Taylor.
The new store located just off Hwy. 441 at Ga. Hwy. 365 is set to open June 29 at 7:30 a.m.
Taylor said she does not know what will happen with the old building that Wal-Mart is vacating. That building is located in the Habersham Hills Shopping Center on Hwy. 441, just north of the new store.
