G-Braves edged by Bisons, 3-2

By staff reports
LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Braves lost the opener of a four game series against the Buffalo Bisons 3-2 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville on Friday night.

The G-Braves (26-28) drop two games under the .500 mark for the first time on the season, but remain in second place in the International League South division at 4.5 games behind Durham with the loss (figure at press time). The Bisons (26-30) remain in fourth place in the IL North.

The G-Braves bats fell silent again, as Gwinnett fell behind 3-0. A late homer from third baseman Shawn Bowman kept Gwinnett from being shut out in three straight games for the first time in its history.

G-Braves starter Todd Redmond (3-6) went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs -- all on homers (a season high for a G-Braves pitcher) -- and scattered 8 hits without a walk and 5 strikeouts in defeat.

Gwinnett's only runs came off the bat of Bowman, who went 2-for-4 with a ninth inning homer and 2 RBI.

The G-Braves play the second game of the four game series against the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday night at Coolray Field at 7:05 p.m. Gwinnett will throw organizational RHP Julio Teheran (4-1, 2.36) against a pitcher yet to be named for Buffalo. The game can be heard on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM.

-- NOTES: Tomorrow night is Freddie Freeman bobblehead night presented by Gwinnett Medical Center. The first 4,000 fans through the gates at Coolray Field will receive a limited edition, collectable bobblehead in the likeness of current Atlanta first baseman, 2010 G-Brave and IL Rookie of the Year Freddie Freeman.
