GAINESVILLE -- Riverside Military Academy announced on Friday that Mike Hutch will take over the Eagles baseball program.
Hutch, who will join the staff at Riverside in August, comes to Gainesville after coaching baseball and softball at Athens Christian School for 11 years.
Hutch led Athens Christian baseball to four state tournament appearances and was selected as Region 8-A Coach of the Year in 2011.
"I am excited about the future of the Riverside Military Eagles baseball program. Our student athletes are academically on solid ground," Hutch said.
Hutch played college baseball at Florida International University in Miami, Fla. He has 21 years of head coaching experience, which includes both high school and college levels. Hutch was also a Major League scout for the Seattle Mariners organization and has sent many of his former players into college and professional ranks. He has over 400 wins as head coach.
Hutch says he already has a vision for Riverside baseball.
"Our team will be made up of three components: Teamwork -- the ability to work together toward a common vision. Relentlessness -- to do what is necessary to reach our goals. And discipline -- to develop self-control, character and efficiency, and learn how to improve every day," he said.
