TUCSON, Ariz. - The Muscular Dystrophy Association reports that the 25th Annual Mansfield Oil MDA Golf Classic raised a record $350,000 to help MDA speed research seeking treatments for progressive muscle diseases affecting more than a million Americans.

The two-day golf outing, held at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga., attracted more than 340 golfers and surpassed the prior year's record success by $50,000.

"Mansfield's work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association continues to be a cornerstone of our corporate identity," said Michael Mansfield, CEO of Mansfield Oil Company. "The annual golf event has allowed us to contribute more than $2.8 million to research and programs over the past 25 years, and we look forward to the day when our efforts to support the work of MDA doctors result in a cure for over 40 neuromuscular diseases."

A golf scramble with many fun overlays, the Mansfield Oil MDA Golf Classic is consistently one of the nation's most successful golf tournament fundraising events. Feature sponsors included: CITGO (leader board), an MDA national sponsor that in 2010 generously raised more than $12 million to advance MDA's lifesaving mission; UPS (title and VIP reception); and Valero (golf course) in addition to event sponsor Mansfield Oil.

Several celebrities added panache to the silver anniversary event, held May 16-17, including Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Greg Gumbel, MCA Nashville recording artist Josh Kelley, former Atlanta Braves player Brian Jordan and former major league pitcher Kris Benson.

"It has been a privilege to partner with Mansfield Oil in support of such a worthwhile cause," said Tim Mosier, fuel group manager for UPS. "We know that the money raised through this effort will be used to dramatically improve the lives of countless men, women and children across the country. We look forward to continuing to grow this event and its outreach in years to come."

MDA Regional Director Sabrina Hughes saluted everyone making the Mansfield Oil MDA Golf Classic an amazing event.

"Our wildly successful golf tournament is a credit to everyone who turned out - from the celebrities to the golfers - and to the tireless committee led by Mansfield Oil, UPS and MDA. Atlanta-area families directly affected by muscular dystrophy are deeply indebted to the participating golfers for helping MDA fund worldwide research, clinics and local children attending summer camp for 25 years."
