Some Habersham Co. mail carriers being transferred

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
ATLANTA - Changes are coming to two Habersham County post offices as the postal service continues to look for ways to save money.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Michael Miles said Thursday that means carriers are moving from the Baldwin and Mount Airy post offices to the one in Cornelia but he was quick to add this is not a fore-runner to closing those offices.

"The good thing about this though is that, from a customer's standpoint, it does not impact their delivery, it certainly doesn't impact their post offices," Miles said. "This has nothing to do with closing post offices. We're looking at moving carriers from offices in one location to another location."

He said it's part of a nationwide plan to cut costs.

Miles also said Thursday there's still no decision on whether to move carriers out of the Oakwood office and consolidate them into the Gainesville Post Office.
