Rabun Co. among hardest hit areas in NE Ga.

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
UNDATED - It appears that Rabun County suffered some of the most extensive damage in northeast Georgia as a result of Wednesday night's storms.

The Lake Burton area was hit hard with a number of houses damaged and destroyed.

Habersham EMC has about 2,400 people without power in Rabun County... most of them around Lake Burton, and, the Rabun County Fire Department lost one of its stations to the storm.

Other power outages were reported by Habersham EMC in White County north of Helen on Georgia Highway 75.

With all of its customers taken care of, Jackson EMC has now dispatched crews to assist with power outages in other parts of the state. Company spokeswoman Bonnie Jones says four crews, totaling 26 workers and 16 vehicles, are helping two other EMCs in Jasper and Clarkesville. Jones said about 450 Jackson EMC customers lost power during the storms, most of those in Gwinnett County.

In Gainesville, the Martha Hope Cabin near City Park was damaged by a falling tree. Damage, from the outside, appeared minor, mainly to gutters on the rear of the building.
