WINDER - A Barrow County man has been sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty to shooting and killing one family member and wounding two others last summer.
42-year-old James Bush, who is from Carl, pleaded guilty in Barrow County Superior Court recently to murder and aggravated assault in the June 29 incident.
BACKGROUND
Barrow County authorities said at the time of his arrest shortly after the shooting that Bush had just returned from an out-of-state trip and that the shooting occurred at the house he shared with is sister.
They said Bush, who lived with his sister's family near Winder, began shooting at his sister's husband and other men in the front yard. Two men were wounded and 30-year-old Antonio Zavala was killed.
Maj. Todd Druse of the Barrow County sheriff's office says Bush then fled in his sister's truck but wrecked it and carjacked another vehicle. Gwinnett County police say he was arrested in Buford.
