ATLANTA - Gov. Nathan Deal recently signed more than 30 pieces of "local legislation," affecting communities from one end of the state to another.
Several of them specifically affect places in northeast Georgia, including bills creating a board of elections in Jackson and Habersham counties and an airport authority in Habersham.
One of the bills extends the Hall County E-SPLOST (Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax).
Others create new homestead exemptions in Hiawassee, Towns County, and Young Harris and a Community Improvement Distrct in Jackson County.
The complete list, as provided by the governor's office last week, is as follows:
HB 105: Amend St. Marys Charter so that City Council members are elected on even numbered years.
HB 106: Amend the City Charter of St. Marys to provide that City Council members are elected by simple majority vote for one of six city wide designated posts
HB 122: Provide a new charter for the City of Waynesboro
HB 207: Provide a new charter for the City of Grayson
HB 251: Allow Jackson County to create and manage CIDs
HB 300: Provide for compensation for Putnam County Commissioners
HB 335: Caps Doraville ad valorem tax at 10 mils; Provides staggered terms for city council members
HB 358: Provide staggered terms for Burke County Board of Commissioners
HB 375: Provide staggered terms for Montgomery County Board of Commissioners
HB 391: Provide new city council districts and provide for elections of Monticello City Council
HB 393: Create Hiawassee ad valorem tax homestead exemption
HB 418: Provide that the Oglethorpe County Surveyor is an appointed position
HB 442: Continue Hall County ESPLOST
HB 444: Change provisions for compensation of Heard County Water Authority board members
HB 482: Modify the salary structure of Fayette County Magistrate Judges
HB 483: Allow Bulloch County to exercise redevelopment powers
HB 508: Change City Limits of Kennesaw
HB 522: Create City of Oxford ad valorem tax homestead exemption
HB 523: Amend City Charter of Oxford to allow for a City Manager
HB 524: Create Towns County School District ad valorem tax homestead exemption
HB 537: Allow Johnson County Probate Judge to also serve as Chief Magistrate
HB 540: Create Young Harris ad valorem tax homestead exemption
HB 545: Create Doraville ad valorem tax homestead exemption
HB 551: Create Jackson County Board of Elections
HB 553: Create Habersham County Board of Elections
HB 554: Create Habersham County Airport Authority
HB 566: Create Jefferson County Board of Elections
HB 573: Create Brooks County Board of Elections
HB 575: Allow City of Tunnell Hill to use Redevelopment Powers
