Barrow County family displaced by Monday house fire

WINDER - A Barrow County family of five was displaced by a fire at their home at 1421 Red Oak Way Monday.

"First arriving firefighters found fire and smoke coming from the garage area of the home," said Lt. Scott Dakin. "Crews made a very rapid interior attack on the fire and were able to contain the fire quickly."

Authorities said it appeared the fire started in the engine of a 1999 Ford Expedition parked in the garage of the home. The vehicle was destroyed as was the garage and a portion of the home's attic. The rest of the house was damaged by smoke.
