GAINESVILLE -- A new era of Gainesville girls basketball was put into motion Monday night.

The Gainesville City School Board officially approved Brenda Hill-Gilmore as the new head coach of the Lady Red Elephants.

Hill-Gilmore comes over from Winder-Barrow, where she led the Lady Bulldoggs to a 7-17 record in 2010-11. She takes over for long-time Gainesville coach Manson Hill, who retired at the end of the past season.

Hill-Gilmore spent six years as an assistant under Hill and then was an assistant at the University of Georgia under Andy Landers. Hill-Gilmore was a prep star at East Hall and played collegiately at Auburn and North Georgia. Her daughter, Tasha Humphrey, helped lead the Lady Elephants to three state titles in 2001, '03 and '04, before moving on to play collegiately in Athens.

Hill-Gilmore will take over a program that missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 1997.
