NICHOLSON - A fire that damaged a vacant house in Jackson County late Tuesday afternoon is being considered "suspicious" by investigators.
The fire, on New Kings Bridge Road in Nicholson, was reported by a passing Jackson County sheriff's deputy. There was moderate damage to the house which was being used for storage.
The deputy, who was on routine patrol, reported that smoke was coming from the eaves of the house.
Jackson County Fire & EMS spokesman Steve Nichols says "the fire was quickly extinguished and confined to one room of the residence."
