By The Associated Press
GAINESVILLE - The U.S. Forest Service has selected two new district rangers to take up their leadership roles in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests this month.

Forest supervisor George Bain has selected Andy Gaston to manage the Chattooga River Ranger District and Ben Battle to oversee the Oconee Ranger District. The two are filling positions vacated by rangers who retired.

Battle begins in his new post April 11. A native of Tuskegee, Ala., he went to Alabama A&M University and began working with the USDA Forest Service in 1998.

Gaston begins his new job April 24. The Georgia native graduated from the University of Georgia and has worked for the government for 24 years.

Encompassing around 867,000 acres across 26 counties, much of it in northeast Georgia, the Chattahoochee and Oconee National Forests include nearly 118,000 acres of designated wilderness.
