GAINESVILLE -- Gainesville held on to the top spot in Region 8-AAA after a 10-0, six-inning shellacking of Lanier Friday at Ivey-Watson Field.
The Red Elephants (13-2, 11-2 in region) pushed their win streak to seven, six coming by the mercy rule. They led White County (11-2, 10-2) by one-game for first place in the region.
The two teams will meet Monday in Cleveland with first place on the line. The Warriors beat Gainesville 6-3 last month at Ivey-Watson in the first meeting.
Against Lanier, Ryan Griffith got the win on the mound going the distance. Chandler Kemp belted a three-run home run and Stephen Mason added three RBI.
