Despite a tough 3-2 loss to Gainesville Thursday in Region 8B-AAA play, the Johnson girls tenmnis team finished second in the subregion as they prepare for the upcoming Region Tournament.
Johnson finished tied with Gainesville but after a tie breaker head-to-head count the Lady Knights took second place behind Oconee County.
Cady Nix beat Morgan Mercer 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Harlee Robson knocked off Martha McKinnon 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Lady Knights' two wins.
Gainesville got a win at No. 2 singles from Brinkley Frankum, who outlasted Maggie Turner 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
The Lady Elephants swept the doubles with Kate Callahan and Lauren Carter knocking off Claire Crain and Carlyn Ivey 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 and Suzanne Smith and Mady Wuest beating Emma Rowlett and Karina Rivera 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
The Region Tournament is slated to begin April 13 at Alberta park in Flowery Branch.
