Fires destroy chicken house, garage, antique car

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Hall County firefighters were busy Wednesday morning with fires that destroyed a detached garage and a mobile home that had been converted into a chicken house.

Chief David Kimbrell said chicken house fire occurred about 7:00 on Priest Circle and that an unknown number of chickens were killed.

The garage - in the 3300 block of Lee Road - caught fire about 10:00. It and an antique car that was inside and being restored were destroyed. No one was in the garage at the time. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of both fires, though lightning is a possibility in the first one.

Kimbrell says lightning struck outside a house on Old Cornelia Highway about midnight Tuesday night, causing a grass fire and gas leak.
