Baseball: Trojans win to stay in first place

By staff reports
WATKINSVILLE -- North Hall rebounded from a tough loss to Gainesville on Friday to knock off Oconee County 7-2 Monday in a key Region 8-AAA game for both teams.

The win kept the Trojans (10-3, 9-2 Region 8-AAA) tied for first place in 8-AAA with Gainesville and White County (which fell to Lumpkin County on Tuesday) near the halfway point of the season.

Chris Stevens earned the win going the distance for North Hall and striking out eight.

Wade Phillips and Andrew Smith each had three hits and Phillips had two RBI for the Trojans. Jesse Strickland had three RBI for North Hall.

North Hall scored four runs in the first inning to give Stevens all the runs he would need. Oconee answered with a run in the bottom of the first but the Trojans put the game away with three more in the third. Oconee added a run in the seventh.

North Hall next will travel to Johnson on Wednesday in another Region 8-AAA battle.
