Work on new bank branch 'on schedule'

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Construction on the new Regions bank branch on E.E. Butler Parkway in Gainesville is on schedule for a mid-summer opening, Regions Market President David Abee said Tuesday.

Abee commented at a symbolic ground-breaking for the office which will be located at the Washington Street intersection.

Work has been underway for some time and representatives of the bank and the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce were among those who gathered for Tuesday morning's ceremony.

Carefully negotiating a makeshift walkway across rain-soaked red clay, the group made its way to the already poured and hardened concrete slab as heavy machinery continue to clear more of the site.

After brief remarks from Abee explaining plans for the site, they they posed for pictures in construction hard hats... shovels in hand, the tips placed against the concrete.

The bank branch will not be an additional location in Hall County but a replacement for the branch now located on the first floor of the Regions building on Green Street across from the federal building. (See link below for earlier story.)

A group of investors purchased the older building last year, and Abee said Regions is moving out to consolidate its downtown locations.
