New ALDI store opens

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville's newest supermarket opened Thursday on the west side of town.

The ALDI store is located at 834B Dawsonville Highway, in the former location of Goody's.

"We are pleased to bring the newest location to the Gainesville area to help more customers stretch their dollars even further," said Thom Behtz, divisional vice president for ALDI. "ALDI has consistently delivered high-quality products at prices lower than the competition. When people try our ALDI select brands, they find out that inexpensive can be great."

Company officials say the store offers more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased items sold under ALDI select brands.

Among the cost-saving practices company officials tout: a cart deposit system, through which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon the cart's return. Other cost-saving practices they point to include a smaller store footprint, open carton displays and encouraging customers to bring their own shopping bags.
