Proposal would change Ga. jury selection process

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - A Georgia lawmaker has filed a proposal that would overhaul the way juror lists are compiled.

The measure filed by state Rep. Alex Atwood, R-Brunswick, would create a statewide juror list to replace the databases that each of Georgia's 159 counties now compile.

The consolidated state-wide list would be based primarily on voter registration rolls and driver's license records. It would be supplemented from other sources, such as property tax rolls.

The Judicial Council of Georgia and the State Bar have voiced their support for the measure, saying it would create a more inclusive and accurate list.
