By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - A scholarship honoring the late Brenau University alumna Lisha Carnes Page has been established to benefit students with roots in Hall and Gwinnett counties who follow her footsteps into nursing at Brenau.

Lisha Page, who died June 16 at age 50, grew up in Hall County and graduated from Johnson High School. At the time of her death, she was employed as a county school nurse in the Gwinnett County Public School System. Her colleagues in the Gwinnett school system, other nurses in the county, and her husband Marty collaborated on the initiative to create the scholarship fund.

"For Lisha nursing was not a profession, but a mission," said Barbara Johnson, one of 14 Gwinnett school nurses, "Lisha had a gift of service."

A member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, Lisha Page received a Bachelor of Science with a degree in Nursing from Brenau in 1981. Prior to her time as a school nurse in Gwinnett, she worked in the emergency room at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, at Kaiser Permanente and for Visiting Nurse of Atlanta, a home health care and hospice service provider. Lisha lived in Buford and was married to Marty for 27 years. They had two children, Bethany and Ryan.

The need-based scholarship is available for nursing students who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average and have ties to Gwinnett County
