Walmart fishing tourney coming to Lanier

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Lanier March 5 for the first of five stops in the Bulldog Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

"The lake is in great shape, the water is clear and we have seen a significant warming trend which should make for some fantastic fishing," said Walmart FLW Tour pro Tom Mann Jr. of Buford, Ga. "The fish should be moving up to spawn so I would stay in shallower water and use a jerkbait.

"Small shaky head jigs or football jigs should work around docks if you are going to target the largemouth," Mann went on to say. "It is going to take about 22-25 pounds to win here right now."

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Laurel Park located on Cleveland Highway. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing
