WCSO warms of telephone scam

CLEVELAND - The White County Sheriff's Office reports several residents have been contacted the office recently to report what investigators believe is a scam operation.

It is one of the oldest on the books: someone gets a call and the caller says they have won a prize. But to the claim the prize, the "winner" must send the caller some money.

Sheriff's department spokesman Phil Dalenberg reminds you that if you have to send money to claim a prize it's a scam and you should not send money in situations like this. Dalenberg says the number of calls of this type have increased in White County recently.
