Gas prices moving on up

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
UNDATED - As of Wednesday evening, gasoline prices in Georgia had increased a nickel-a-gallon, on average, this week.

The increases are tied to the unrest in the Middle East which has pushed the price of a barrell of oil to more than $100. In London, Brent crude for April delivery was up another $2.88 Thursday, or 2.6 percent, at $114.13, while the New York rate rose another 2 percent at over $100 a barrel. The New York contract has soared 20 percent over the past week.

On Monday, the statewide average was $3.09 a gallon which was three cents higher than a week earlier.

According to Georgia gas prices.com, the highest prices in Georgia as of 7:00 Wednesday morning were in Decatur, Atlanta and Marietta: $3.49 a gallon for regular unleaded. The cheapest - $2.89 in Warner Robins.
