8-AA tournament: Lady Vikings fall to Union County, finish fourth in 8-AA

TIGER -- A grueling overtime loss to Fannin County Friday night in the semifinals of the Region 8-AA Tournament played a role for East Hall Saturday in a 48-41 loss to Union County in the third place game at the Rabun County gym.

The Lady Vikings offense was sluggish most of the game and Union County held East Hall leading scorer Jasmine Jenkins to no points.

The Lady Panthers lead virtually throughout taking a 25-20 lead into halftime. East Hall trimmed the Union County lead to 32-30 heading into the fourth quarter but could not get the lead.

East Hall got to within two points in the final minute but the Lady Panthers took advantage of an intentional foul on East Hall to put together a five-point possession to seal the game.

Natalie Johnson led the Lady Vikings (15-11) with 14 points. Morgan Jackson added 10 for East Hall.

Union County (14-13) was paced by 14 points from Holli Abernathy and 13 points from Bekka Merritt. Catie Tanner had 10 points for the Lady Panthers.
