ATHENS - A new national study shows that the University of Georgia has the largest Latin program of any college in the country.
The Modern Language Association student looks at programs at more than 2,500 two- and four-year colleges and universities. It shows that UGA had 460 students taking Latin classes in 2009.
That's nearly twice as many as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and more than triple the enrollment at Harvard and Yale.
UGA has long had one of the biggest classic language departments in the country. This year, 62 undergraduates list Latin as a major or minor.
