Lawrenceville man faces animal cruelty trial

LAWRENCEVILLE - A man accused of beating a family pet in front of his children may go on trial next week in Gwinnett County.

Published reports in the Atlanta Journal Constitution said Dainely Dewayne Green, 50, severely beat and choked the family pet, a 2-year-old daschund, in January 2010. The dog suffered a fractured skull and other broken bones. The dog is recovering.

Green faces animal cruelty charges in the case. Authorities reportedly found out about the incident when Green's wife filed for a protective order against him.
