CUMMING - An advisory committee that has been studying the issue is recommending that Forsyth County build and operate an animal shelter instead of continuing with a privately run operation.
The current set up is costing the county about $500,000 a year.
The estimated cost to construct a new shelter has been put at around $2 million.
Should the Forsyth County Animal Control and Shelter Advisory Committee's recommendation be approved by the county comission, the committee would provide oversight to the construction.
The county commission is expected to consider the recommendation at a commission meeting Thursday night.
